Our campus is designed to help children in crisis who cannot remain in their own home for a variety of reasons. Our children come from homes that are in crisis, due to emotional, physical or sexual abuse. Sometimes, a parent cannot take care of the child due to a terminal illness and do not have the support of family to take care of the children.

Children who come to Boysville come from various backgrounds. Boysville does not look at the child’s past…we look at their future. By providing food, shelter, and clothing, and medical services, we are able to provide the basic necessities needed to make the child feel safe and comfortable at Boysville. Our residents do not wonder if they will eat at night or if they will have a safe place to sleep. With our education services, our children realize their potential. We encourage education. We encourage them to explore college, trade or military options. Options that previously seemed like a dream. We are able to pull children out of abuse cycles or poverty cycles and teach them to become an active part of society.

At Fulshear, we begin with the end in mind: a life of healthy independence and self-sufficiency for each of our graduates. Helping Hand Home is a private, non-profit organization located in Austin, Texas licensed by the State of Texas and governed by the membership of the Helping Hand Society.

Children coming in to residential treatment have exhibited a range of extremely high risk behaviors such as runaway, aggression to others, self abuse, sexual acting out, suicidal gestures etc. Therapeutic Child Care Specialists under the supervision of the Clinical Team provide a systematic program to encourage and shape pro-social behavior while helping a child stop unsafe and high-risk behaviors.

Pegasus Sex Offender Treatment Program

The overall goal of the Sex Offender Treatment Program is to break the cycle of sexual abuse; stop the sexually abusive and other criminal or harmful behavior exhibited by the residents, ultimately resulting in no subsequent sexual offenses.

Pegasus Freedom Program

The Pegasus Freedom Program employs a comprehensive approach to affecting change in thinking patterns as well as behaviors exhibited by the residents.

The residents are instructed, encouraged and evaluated as to progress in three areas; therapy, education and behavior.

Therapy is provided from a cognitive behavioral approach by licensed therapists.

Education is delivered by the University of Texas University Charter School Pegasus Campus.

Behavior modification model is based on a level system to which all privileges and activities are tied.

The decision to place a child in a residential program is a complicated one. For most, it comes after a great deal of emotional pain and stress for all members of the family. Usually it is seen as the last chance to help get a troubled child get back on track, and is fraught with feelings of despair and hopelessness.

It is our mission to give hope back to the families and to help them see that all is not lost. Even though these youth may have provided professionals and loved ones with ample reasons to see them as damaged, or in some cases irreparable, it is our contention that in each person lies the inherent wish to do good, to be good, to care for others, and be cared for.

This is at the core of our philosophy, the belief that our children today are not liabilities but assets. Through a variety of circumstances some have lost their way, but this does not mean we should give up. So many of these young people have never tapped into their true potential, and their self concept is so poor that they feel as if they have nothing to offer their family or anyone one else in this world.
