SECURITY LEVEL: Staff Secure Community-Based Design

Athena’s Circle of Providence is a three story Victorian home that accommodates  girls that have been referred by the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF). Athena’s Circle is a staff secure residential program. We serve females, ages 11-17, who are challenged by mental health and trauma issues and have demonstrated difficulty in managing their behaviors. Referrals to Athena’s Circle typically have had prior psychiatric hospitalizations and difficulties in safely managing their behavior in previous residential, group home or home placements. Additionally, girls are accepted into the program as an alternative to campus-based residential treatment. The expectation is that the services provided will foster skill development that will prepare these girls for a return to a community-based placement, preferably home, foster care, or independent living. The length of stay is predicated on the girl’s identified treatment needs, and their level of progress within the program.

Elmore Academy does accept students on a voluntary placement, however, Elmore Academy is a correctional facility so the student should have some delinquency issues.

Male and female programs are operated separately and contact between the two is not permitted.

Forest Ridge was established in 1983 as a residential foster care facility for at risk youth.

The program, located in rural northwest Iowa, has grown from 12 residential beds to 140 residential treatment and emergency shelter care beds.  An expanded continuum of services has been added which enhance and support the residential programs.

Paulding RYDC is a maximum security facility that houses both male and female youth from the ages of 11-17.  Paulding RYDC provides short term detention services for youth awaiting court hearings or placement and long term detention services for Superior Court youth.

A residential treatment facility for male offenders between the ages of 13-18. This facility is considered a Level 8 (high risk) residential facility. The average length of stay for the youth is 9-12 months. The facility provides supervision of youth in a safe, secure and humane environment. Services for youth include: case management, mental health and substance abuse services, medical and psychiatric services, and educational and vocational services.  While in the program, youth attend public school, which is provided by the Palm Beach County Public School District.

Santa Rosa Juvenile Residential Facility is an environmentally secure medium risk wilderness program located in Blackwater State forest. Offering a full range of services to male youth between the ages of 14 and 18.  The program emphasizes structured learning, cognitive behavioral skills training and cognitive behavioral therapy, social skills training, academics, pre-vocational and vocational training, and life skills. A R.O.P.E.S. course is also part of the curriculum. Program provides community service projects in conjunction with the Division of Forestry. The average length of stay is 6-9 months. The facility is based on the principles of Restorative Justice.
